Meet Jim Bob's Big Christian Family

Dr. Dobson,

Your dream has come true in the form of a large, white, big haired fundamentalist family with big thick southern accents. The Duggars. I'm sure you have already had them on your show, and tears were sure to fall down the cheeks of working mothers everywhere as they drove their cars to work and listened in. What can stand up against such a testament of hearth and home?

The Duggar's. Almost sounds like "dog gone" or "god" backwards 2x's. Are they LDS? Brethren? I could have swore I heard one of the kids say "I would like to have phrases from the Heavenly Father put up everywhere." But my wife swears he said "Founding Fathers." Probably not LDS. But they sure know their scripture. The family web site pushes 2 Corinthians 12:9. It's a long verse with word's like "strength" "sufficiency" and "gladness". It must be good. I don't' think the apostle Paul had a 16 child family in mind when he wrote that one. But then again, the apostle Paul never had one of the Duggars homemade rolls:

DUGGAR HOMEMADE ROLLS/2 c. shortening1/2 c. sugar1 t. salt2 pkg. yeast2 c. flourCombine first 5 ingr. in large bowl & cut with pastry cutter.2 eggs beat in 2 c. measuring cup, fill cup to 2 cup markwith hot water. Pour over dry mixture.Slowly add:3 c. flourCover. Let Rise 20 min. in warm oven. Pour onto floured surface.Knead. Flatten with hands into large pizza shape. Cut with pizza cutter into16 slices. Roll up from wide end to point. Place in greased pans leaving space for rolls to double in size. (can shape like cresent or lay on side where swirl shows.) Cover. Let rise in warm oven at least 20 min. Remove from oven. Preheat oven. Preheat oven to 375. Bake 20-30 min. depending on how dark you prefer. Immediately brush with 1 stick (1/2 c.) melted butter. (Everyone’s favorite Roll’s!)Yields 16 Rolls in 2-9”x13” pans

Dr. Dobson, it must be hard to focus so hard on holding the country's conservative politics together when the Duggar's have mouths to feed, homeschool to run, verses to learn and violins to play. Right under your nose Bush almost got Harriet Myers into the Supreme Court - and those Duggar's almost caused you take your eye off the ball. Dang those Duggar's. Can't live with them, can't live without them.

How do you do it? If you hadn't moved your own growing ministry family from Pomona to Colorado Springs, just like the Duggar's moved from their small rental to a 7,000 square foot dream home, Focus on the Family may have lost hold of the country's moral thread altogether. But Mrs. Duggar, and her industrious husband Jim Bob are there for you. They are spreading family values to all of America through TLC, CBS' The Early Show, USA Today, and other national and regional media sources. What more could you want? With warm smiles, plastic plates, and lots and lots of Holiness style Gunny sack outfits for the girls, those Duggars are something else. They are the epidemy of the Focus dream. Financially prudent, fertile, and absolutely no evidence of sexual identity confusion to be seen.

My little family of 5 is dwarfed by the Duggars. Speaking of Dwarfs, the show right before "Meet the Duggars" on TLC was about a family of small people. But I don't think they are Christians. So let's move on.

Dr. Dobson. Thank you for helping grow families like the Duggars. I dig the Duggars. God digs the Duggars. We all should long to be like the Duggars. Hopefully there will be more Duggars to come.

Their website refers you to the Institute of Basic Life Conflicts - Bill Gothard gets another one. Also, the poofy bangs on Michelle are a dead give-away that they are home schoolers. I have noticed this trend, and am putting it out there. She must have had a baby every 4 months, I'll bet she's getting a little saggy in the bilge, if you know what I mean.

What is the point of this post? I see 16 young healthy kids growing up conservative. Good for them and good for the USA! We need more families like this!
